In this video we look at a fundamental ball protection skill called “ripping”. You rip the ball from side to side to keep it away from your opponent. Ripping is a way to keep control of the ball while being closely guarded and still manage to keep your eyes on your team mates and your opponents.

There are two kinds of rips. A high rip and a low rip. As its name implies, a high rip involves moving the ball from one side of your body to the other through an arch above your head. A low rip does the same thing but the ball moves through a very low arch and close to the ground.
